Alt-country artist Brandon Butler combines the spirit of blues with country grit (and a little hard rock for good measure) with the song “Bears and Mules,” from his latest album HENO . The track starts off softly; with Butler’s Bob Dylan-tinged vocals hinged with plaintive lyrics (Took my morning cup of coffee/took another for the road/ Man this mule smells so bad/but he hauls a heavy load). It’s not until the song hits the chorus that the track begins to take momentum-with guitars blazing, drums crashing and backing instrumentals hitting hard to match Butler’s vigorous singing. This track only scratches the surface of what’s to be expected from his new album-showcasing Butler’s full potential as an alt-country/folk artist.
