MidCity is in the heart of Washington, DC and includes the vibrant 14th and U Street corridors. It’s filled with independent arts and music venues, fantastic places to dine, and cutting edge shops and boutiques. Every year on the first weekend of August (the hottest of the hot here in DC, hence the name), MidCity businesses come together to hold a neighborhood wide event called the Dog Days Sidewalk Festival. Founded in 2000 by Home Rule, this event has grown from a sidewalk festival including just 6 businesses to now over 70! It truly is the best time to come explore this amazing neighborhood’s history, culture, food, shops, services, and people.
On August 4th and 5th the Mid City Dog Days Festival walking route will have live music stages and performances for the first time. Listen Local First has been working with the Dog Days team to create busking “stages” throughout the MidCity Corridor all day on Saturday and Sunday. In order to promote a more vibrant local cultural community, Listen Local First aims to create alternate avenues for local music performances and has organized over 40 local bands, artists and DJs to perform at 8 different stages throughout the weekend.
